Rory McCarty, a bug exterminator and creator of the TikTok account @bug_boys, noticed Marion during a shopping trip to Walmart. He was moved by the sight of the elderly man still working and decided to start a GoFundMe campaign to help him retire. The initial video of Marion went viral, and donations poured in, far exceeding the initial goal. Within days, the fundraiser had raised over $100,000. On January 4, 2023, McCarty presented Marion with a check for $108,682, allowing the octogenarian to finally leave his job and visit his daughters in Florida.
